Several built soil remediation pyrolysis plants successfully treat soils, which have been heavily contaminated with organic pollutants and inorganic pollutants such as dioxin, PCB, oil, cyanides, mercury. The cleaned soil is then reutilized.

The SOSA model of the pyrolysis facility (Seawater-Oil-Sand) was designed for treatment of the contaminated soil by oil sludge after environmental catastrophes with oil tankers and rigs. First SOSA plant was built in 1995.
